Cover Art of the Week #33: MAYA, M.I.A.

File under: youtubish graphics.

The trippy artwork for M.I.A.’s last album was created by the artist herself, in collaboration with Los Angeles based graphic and web designer Aaron Parsons.

Elements of the design were featured as part of the guerilla art campaign BillBored, in which other popular names such as The Futureheads, Cassette Playa and many others took part. The campaign targeted the 2010 UK general election, projecting billboards onto popular landmarks around London, such as St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tate Modern and the Saatchi Gallery.

Curious to listen to this much talked-about album? Check out our M.I.A. AUPEO! Artist Station and watch her (on Youtube, of course!) on the Late Show with David Letterman, performing Born Free with a bunch of doppelgängers and none other than Suicide’s Martin Rev!
