Cover Art of the Week #13: Overpowered, Róisín Murphy

A sparkling apparition in high heels dramatically cast against an East London backdrop: glamor, ridiculousness, cleverness and sharp irony – all brought together by dancefloor lady Róisín Murphy playing the part of a diva dazzling her mundane surroundings with the power of her sparkling persona.

She appears this way on the cover of her album Overpowered (as well as on the following singles - the homonymous Overpowered, Let Me know and You Know Me Better) thanks to art director Scott King, who recalls “[the] intention [was] to create an image of Róisín as a ’24 hour a day’ pop star – she would always be in character, regardless of the banality of the situation.”

King teamed with photographer Jonathan de Villiers to masterfully illustrate her disco wildness and eccentricity, conceiving a strong narrative direction developed through different scenes and locations. In every occasion, Róisín Murphy avails herself to the opportunity to magnificently dress up with striking outfits by cutting-edge designers like

Viktor & Rolf (shopping),

Gareth Pugh (taking a walk),

Givenchy (enjoying a beer at the pub).

And after all the errands are done, it’s time for a coffee break: have a cup with Róisín while checking out some behind the scenes footage from the album cover photoshoot (and find even more making-of clips on her roisinmurphytv):

Are you now feeling like taking the dog out wearing a shiny evening dress or dancing on the table of your local diner at lunchtime?
Go to Róisín Murphy’s AUPEO! Artist Station (or find her featured in our Viva La Woman! AUPEO! Station, too) and jump up, sing along and go wild to this lady’s witty, cosmic, edgy, flashing disco music!
